People always ask us - how big should my coop be for my 4 chickens?
It is not that simple. Think of your bedroom. If you are like most people -- you mainly use the bedroom to sleep and other parts of the house are used for socializing/entertaining, etc. Chickens only use their coop to sleep at night and for laying their eggs during the day. It does not need to be large and grand -- in fact, as long as the chickens have lots of space during the day, they don't mind being snug at night inside their coop.
We feel very strongly that chickens should free range during the day - and should not be confined to runs. However, we understand that sometimes that is not possible - and we encourage people to build the largest size run their yard can reasonably accommodate. We discourage people from buying coops with built in runs - since they tend to be too small, and not healthy for the chickens to be confined daily. However, coops with built-in runs are great if you go away for the occasional weekend and need the chickens to be in a safe spot.

The coops we build are Redwood, very sturdy, and most important -- predator proof. Elevating the coop makes it difficult for predators to get inside the coop - and rodents from burrowing underneath. Our coops and Runs are built to be rat and predator (coyote, bobcat, fox, racoon) proof. We are experts since we have been doing this for a long time.
We are very proud of the craftsmanship of the coops as well as their competitive pricing. . Our coops are all hand built in Marin County by local carpenters using California Redwood.

Sweetie - $740 The Sweetie is our smallest coop and is a real people pleaser. It can accommodate up to 4-5 chickens . The coop is very stylish and very sturdy. All latches and hardware are made with galvanized or zinc plated which ensures they will not rust. The exterior is all new redwood and the framing is Douglas Fir; we recommend that you paint or stain the legs for added protection. The redwood is new. We have found that the old redwood is too dry and frequently cracks posing long term problems. There is an observatory window and one very over-sized nesting box. We also include a baby chick roosting bar which can be later removed when your chickens are full grown.
The coop is easy to pick up and move and would allow you to move it to different spots in your garden. The coops dimensions are approximately 3'5 x 4.5' with roof overhang; height is approx. 5'0 at ridge. We have designed all our coops to be able to fit through standard garden gates; and nesting boxes are protected from roosting bars. You never want your birds pooping over the nesting box. We suggest placing a piece of wood or linoleum in the nesting boxes .

Sweetie coop that has been modified to accommodate small attached run. The attached run is approx 10' x 4' x 5'. Covered with corrugated metal roofing. San Francisco Sweetie $785 (Assemble Yourself Coop in a Kit)
We hear from many San Francisco residents that they would love to buy the Sweetie - but there is absolutely no way they can get bring the coop to their backyard, since they lack backyard access from the street. So, we are pleased to announce that we now offer the San Francisco Sweetie - we have created panels that you will assemble yourself. It is actually more labor intensive for us to create the Sweetie as a kit than us assembling on site. The kit takes 1.5-3 hours to assemble and requires intermediate knowledge of power tools. The 'Moxie' Coop
The Moxie I - $825.99 Amazing price and extremely pleasing design. It can hold between 6- 9 chickens comfortably. There are 2 nesting boxes INSIDE the coop and ACCESSED through am EXTERIOR side door on the right hand side of the coop. We can also construct a left side access. Just ask! There are also multi level roosting bars. The coop is elevated to protect against predators and burrowing rodents.
The floor is made of wire screened which makes cleaning the coop very easy. Don't worry that the wire is uncomfortable for the hens - they walk on it less than 1 minute per day! The sides of the coop are clad in new redwood - but we use Douglas Fir for framing. We use zinc coated hardware on all latches which ensures no rust down the road.
This coop also has a baby chick roosting bar which can be removed when your chickens are full grown.
This coop is maintenance free and will last easily 20 years. The coop is approx. 4.11 across x 3.3 deep. Coop height is approx. 71" at center ridge.

Chic and functional the Emmanuelle French coop has redwood siding and has the same front facade as our "Moxie Coop" but can hold more chickens since we have attached a rear "bump out" for easy egg collection; 4 chickens can nest and lay their eggs at the same time. JUDY COOP - $1,299
Our Judy coop has been designed to look like a barn and is made of new redwood which means no on going painting and maintenance! Additionally, the coop's legs are redwood which holds up better next to soil. The advantage of using redwood over Douglas Fir means the wood does not require to be painted and can stand up to wet winters.. This coop is maintenance-free. This is a great price for a redwood coop and it will easily last 30 years. The coop is very stylish and has a peaked roof and a viewing window for both you and your chickens convenience! The door and window are nicely trimmed out. The coop measures 6.0' across x 3.2 deep; can accommodate upwards of 8-9 chickens. All our runs are guaranteed to be predator and rat proof. We encase the entire structure in hardware cloth. Finished heights range from 4-8 feet tall. We can install automatic door openers and have various trim levels. We also offer built in coops and nesting boxes.
